Chicago-July 6th 12pm

airport as overrun as usual
people anxious for their place
in line on board beside each other
besides their destination
a frenzied energy sets the pace
overcharged by way of travel prices
taxes food prices by the stress of
removal and travel toward
the unfamiliar or perhaps
back to an unpleasant familiar

choices have been
eliminated for the most part
nothing is
the way it used to be
a Big Mac after 30 years
tastes more artificial more
Big Macked and all the while
they're lovin it

airports usb port
portals and porters
pursers and pursuers
all congregate in waiting lounges
waiting for their number to be called

Chicago-July 6th 8- hrs 45 min later

Chicago still
here with a few hundred others
stranded holidays
strained tempers
suffering babies
all waiting after dinner vouchers
carefully checked by waitresses

a whooper among the bunch
every moment an opportunity
somebody must want to whoop him one
after hours and hours of waiting
and eleven hours travel
at least
still ahead
come on buddy!
one more whoop!

where are you when
you're stranded
in international space
a non-place with non belonging
all that's possible is to amble back
and forth back and
forth till frothing at the mouth
the rabid waiting
with no rapid resolution
just amble back and forth
